Good afternoon,
It was very nice to see so many of you at conferences yesterday and today. I have such a wonderful group of kids, and I thank you for all your at home support!
As many of you are aware, my class tried the performance assessment instead of the "typical" benchmark test for the last unit- Earth, the Moon, and the Stars. They shared their Google Slides with each other today and then gave me some honest, insightful feedback about participating in this type of assessment. It seems as though the overwhelming majority of them preferred this type of assessment to a multiple choice/short answer kind of benchmark. But, they gave me some great feedback about how to improve in future units and years. I sent home a rubric to be signed for Monday, but I also told them that this only gave me extra information that could help their grade, not hurt it, as it was a trial for me too. I would encourage you to ask them to show you their Google Slides (if they had time to complete one). They were quite impressive!
We will continue this performance based learning and testing, as well as, taking "typical" tests. Their social studies benchmark will be a "typical" benchmark on Friday, April 27th. The vocabulary and study guide for this unit are available on our classroom website.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Amanda
