Good afternoon,
Here are a couple updates for the week:
Science: This week our class dissected owl pellets to explore how energy transfers within an ecosystem. They were given the option to take their findings home in a baggie. Some of them did, and some of them chose not to. Either way, please take a minute to check out the pictures on our classroom website.
Reading: We started our second round of literature circles this week. The class is reading four different realistic fiction books, and each child was assigned chapters to read and a reading actively sheet to complete by next Thursday, November 8th. The four different groups will meet next Thursday to participate in quality literature circle conversations about the first section of their books.
Writing: The students are continuing drafting their personal narrative stories. They are practicing “showing, not telling”, meaningful dialogue, and strong organization through multi-paragraph writing and transition words.
Math: All students will complete a pre-assessment for Unit 3 tomorrow, and we will begin studying fraction concepts including adding and subtracting of fractions. You can expect to see their Unit 2 corrected test early next week to be reviewed, signed, and returned.
Other: Our Halloween party was a huge success! I loved seeing the kids in their costumes, and we enjoyed playing several games while enjoying a special snack. I took some pictures which can be seen on our classroom webpage.
The playground dedication ceremony was this morning, and our class will get our first chance to play on this amazing new playground tomorrow morning first thing! I know the kids are excited to try it out! Thank you for your support to help bring this fantastic playground to our school.
Scholastic book orders were sent home this week. If you are interested in place an order, please do so online or send it to school by next Tuesday. The online code is- H3MVL
Lastly, parent conference sign up forms were sent home today. Please send them back to school as soon as possible to ensure you receive a time that works best for you. Also, I am available to meet as early as 7:30 AM on Tuesday, November 20th, so if you are in need of an earlier time than 8:15 AM, please write that in, and I will do my best to accommodate you. I look forward to meeting with you to talk about your child’s academic and social successes and needs.
Best wishes,
Amanda Lapham
